Unlike most reasons, mine is different. This morning for some reason the ribbon that connects the controller ports to the motherboard came loose, and the latches on both sides broke as well. After countless effort, I finally managed to fix it by using tape, hopefully it wont melt under the heat? Unfortunately, I realized Resident Evil Code Veronica was in the disc tray while I had it upside down to connect the other end of the ribbon. When I reassembled everything, I recieve the disc read error on all my games, as well as movies. Is there anything I can do before wasting fifty dollars on a new laser? Or even 100 on a new disc tray :-/. I have tried the alcohol swab method already, stilll no luck.

-Thanks

Edit: Also, my ps2 has ten screws on the back, I'm not sure what version that makes it, but I'm sure some of you know.

Spun - I had the same problem with the ribbon cable connecting the controller port coming loose. Was there any trick to getting the cable reconnected again?

I've tried putting the cable back in place and then turning on the system. At first, the console would recognize the controller was plugged in. Then I would move my hand slightly, and the console would think the controller was disconnected. Now, no matter what, the console will not recognize the controller.
