| Junior Member | Hi, My slim ps2 stopped spinning recently, I'm pretty sure I know what's wrond with it.. When I've bought the magic swap boot cd, I needed to stuck 3 part into the playstation, to make the ps2 believe it is closed, 1 on the bottom right, one on the top left, and one near the circonference of the cd hole. Now I,ve oppened the playstation and I don't see any button near the circonference of the cd, top right... is there a button there? I guess there was one because you need to block it to make it spin. Anybody can show me a picture of the button, or where I could short the motherboard so I can close the switch permanently? Thx |

| Junior Member | Did you try taking all the tools out? Does the system work then? I have the same problem right now actually, my slimline has just stopped spinning discs entirely, even with my magic switch stuff out. I had to open mine up (voided warranty) to install a piece though... Can anyone give me a hand? I doubt I damaged anything, but the motor just plain doesn't spin anymore. The console just goes straight to the Browser screen. |

| Junior Member | hi, i am a complete dunce anyways - have no idea what i am doing or what to look for. I've been an idiot by buying the ps2 from ebay *ugh!* I just hooked it all up, and disc doesnt spin... like you i dont think the ps2 is recognizing there is a disc in there! The guy I bought it off did say it has a new laser in there - he also told me it was in full working order! I wondered if maybe this switch problem is what i have - and the guy forgot to do something b4 he put the thing back together... Any help here would be great, open to all suggestions. Dont know what I was thinking ... expecting a working ps2 for £36! rofl. Gotta laugh or I'll cryyyy! |

| Junior Member | I reassesed mine last night. I heard the disk spin slightly - like it was checking for a cd - but then it stopped, and nothing more... went straight to browser window. It looks like it could be a laser prob with that one. Funny though, I noticed it only making the noise as if it were looking for a cd when I powered it on. If i reset the thing, it did absolutely nothing. I tried this afew times too. Anyways, I got in touch with the person who sold it to me, and sent it back off to them today - he fixes the things for a living and said he'd fix it and send it back to me, and give me a refund for my postage. Just hope he does! I was half expecting, a "Haha! dodgey ps2 isnt my prob now!" from the guy - lol can ya tell how much faith i have in ebay sellers?! Hope it gets sorted... I got a load more games arrive in the post today, cant even play any, or test they even work!! Hope you guys figure out the problem. Jeez, u think sony would sort out old tech probs before releasing ps3 and starting all over again! I sure aint paying £450 for one of those, for it to be likely to blow up in the first 6 months, like the original ps2 did! |

| Junior Member | i was looking at ps2 parts on ebay. saw lasers for around £10, boards for £10, but slimline boards were £20 - then again, u can find a ps2 for £30 as well. I'd buy another one even if it is broken, and mix n match parts until you get a working one! lol. Best of Luck with you PS2 Fixing Quests! Aj x |
