| Member | i have a 30001 series ps2 and it is having the biggest problem i have heard of. i'll try to explain it the best i can: i push the power button which changes the status of the ps2 from standby to on and changing the color of the light from red to green, and then...nothing. the fan turns on but thats it. the tray indicator light doesn't light up, the disc tray won't open(or close), the laser won't move, and the drive won't attempt to spin. until this happened the system worked fine. i have never heard of this happening to anybody else and wondered if this is in any way common? oh yeah, and HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. for anybody that has a free and/or cheap solution, believe me when i say this:THANK YOU and F*CK SONY AND THEIR INFERIOR PRODUCTS. |

| Chief Webologist | I haven't seen dead units like this before, but my guess would be the power supply. If you're interested in fixing it, your best bet is to start at the wall and work your way back. Replace the power cable, then the unit it attaches to inside the PS2. You can buy spare parts for very cheap on Ebay, but with a problem like this it may be quite a hassle to determine the cause and fix it. |

| Member | the cord would be doubtful, seeing that the fan spins up, but the actual power supply??? i can't really think of a way to tell if its living up to its requirements. |

| Junior Member | This is EXACTLY the problem that got me on the 'net, DESPERATE for help. I haven't tried the cleaning process yet, but it's definitely NOT the power supply - as you note, the fans is turning, and for some time the disc drive DID open and close, so it aint' the juice. It seems like it has to be the drive itself, but I don't see much reference to this problem and these posts here aren't giving me much hope... |
