| ¡pɹɐpuɐʇs ploƃ | Wifi wouldn't work unless you were to be near a hotspot. Get a evdo or similar card like Jamsan suggested. The failure was in the misunderstanding of how Wifi works. |

| Tweak Minion | ah i see, i thought there was a device that allowed you to sort of make your own hotspot, via satellite signal, using an antenna or something. |

| From Utah, NOT mormon | You could always use your phone (if it's compatible), but you'll need to sign up for a Data plan that allows the use of your phone as a mobile modem. Be ready to pay a ton of money for it. |

| From Utah, NOT mormon | Actually, some mobile phones are surprisingly fast being used as a modem. Sprint's Data Network transfers at 230k, much faster than dial-up, and faster than some low-end DSL. |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Eh I dunno that it deserved a pic though; if that's the case then most of us would have stupid pics in each thread we have a question about. Could you imagine the thread Ali started about his toilet? And of all people, Justin3 is the last person who should be doing it. |

| Tweak Minion | oh god, don't get the Sierra Wireless 881 posted above. It's a piece of shit. Get an Option Wireless aircard if you HAVE to have AT&T. I'd say T-Mobile since it is the only one that is truly unlimited but it's only EDGE. But if that's ok, i highly suggest it as it's also cheaper than all the others and very reliable. anyways, I've worked almost 3 years in a tier 3 environment in the cellular industry so ask me anything. |

| Tweak Minion | I guess I should've been more desriptive than just being lazy and posting a picture... Like others have mentioned, get an EVDO card from ATT/Sprint/Verizon, etc. We use Sprint's at work, both Pantech's and Merlin's. The pantechs tend to be a bit more reliable. Not sure what the costs are, but the card is probably somewhere in the $50-100 range, and the service (atleast what we pay) is somewhere in the 50-70$ a month range. Speeds are so-so. Areas can be hit or miss on connectivity/speed, but overall, it works pretty well. I took an hour trip from CT to NYC, and never dropped connection once, and I was traveling in a freeway covered in a fair amount of trees. If you wanted to go nuts, you could setup a laptop to use the EVDO card, install a switch in the car (or a wireless router, not sure how that would work though), setup Internet Connection sharing and allow others to connect as well. |

| Vagina Friendly Mayor | Yeah, it depends on what you're going to do with it. I use my laptop and verizon card as a crappy GPS substitute but I've seen a guy use just a wireless adapter connected to a laptop mounted in his car to sync his MP3's from his house without unmounting the laptop. | Tweak Minion | by the way, most phones will be able to tether via USB or bluetooth, not only smartphones. be sure if you do that though, take notice of the phones capabilities as far as speeds go. |
