| El Chupacabra | So, I took my van in to have the timing belt replaced and man did I open a can of worms. The brakes (front and rear), coolant hoses, two solenoids in the evap system, and my cabin air filter all need replaced. It's costing me $2300 which I guess is cheaper than buying a new van, but man that eats a big hole in my budget. The next major repair this thing needs, I am done with it. Hopefully that won't be for a while. It's paid for and it's a Honda. |

| liberal crybaby | It's funny how it works that way, eh? After the accident in the Honda, I had a plethora of problems that followed immediately after but once those were fixed everything was fine. It's that damn Japanese ingenuity. |

| Tweak Minion | ya i hate that. It comes to a point where it would be cheaper to just get another newer car. |

| con de | Yep, I have a 99 New Beetle in the same situation. Had a flat tire a couple of weeks ago....new rear brakes and outer tie rods. The next thing Im leaving it on the side of the road with the keys in it. My wife will drive my car and I guess I'll have to ride her Vespa to work. It's baby blue and I work with a bunch of Marines and Army Harley riders. I can just imagine the shit I have coming to me... |

| Jolly Roger | well its not like they're major repairs, brakes will need service on any car, rubber lines gets brittle over time You could simply not replace the emission stuff or filter if you didn't want to, its not going to effect the overall ability to use the car. Most of its pretty basic stuff and you could do yourself time permitting aswell. I bet theirs less then $500 in parts their. |

My car is not smog legal with the old solenoids so I have to replace those for legal reasons, and I have noticed the air is pretty stale in the car so that wouldn't hurt either. I might as well pay for it all at once.

| Globe Trekker | Damn, that sucks dude! If it makes you feel any better just remember that's the equivalent of about 5 car payments. And you'll probably get YEARS out it. |

| Indigenous Nudist | you should be able to replace the hoses yourself, and the cabin filter is REAL easy to replace in most cars. should be located on the firewall, might have to pop a piece of plastic off to get to it. i'd just buy that filter myself and replace it myself. the sol, brakes, and timing belt should be priority. |

| on a semi related note my gf's 01 civic tranny just blew 2k to fix that and another 500 for timing belt that needs to be replaced. The cars only worth like 5k ... just came back from a kia dealer that wanted to set her up with a kia spectra for 6 years worth of payments in which it would have cost her 21,500 at the end to own a kia |

<_< But yeah, I really should starting figure out how to do basic repairs. The only downsides are I'd have to go to my parents place as the apartment is pretty pissy about car repair on site plus there's seems to always be snow on the ground.

| El Chupacabra | It's not just the rotors, it's a FULL brake job, including drums. This car has a 111,000 miles on it. I'm not an imbecile when it comes to cars, the rotors were in bad shape. I don't have the time or resources to do most repairs on my own. |
