Alright I know jack shit about car audio but I'm looking to put a somewhat decent system in my car one of these days.

I don't listen to much rap, but most of the music I listen to is harder techno, and a decent amount of rock.. what would you reccommend? My friend has 2 12's in his car and it sounds good with rap, but anything else it sounds like shit.

Know what I mean?
I'm baked as hell so if you don't just tell me and I'll ask later. Thanks.

I LOVE my sub/amp combination in my truck, but I hear it's kinda pricey (I traded a paintball setup for it, have ~$500 in the complete setup). It's a JL Audio W7 10" sub in the factory JL Audio ported enclosure, and a JL Audio 500/1 mono amp. I'm also running two 1-farad capacitors with 2-guage wiring from the battery. I can listen to country, rock, rap, hip hop, it doesn't matter. The sound is extremely tight and it hits HARD! I had it in my 1997 Grand Prix GTP before I hit the deer, and it sounded awesome there. I now have in in my 1992 Isuzu Trooper (completely open) and it sounds awesome. Also, with the caps, I don't dim the lights any noticeable amount when the sub hits hard. Now I won't get rid of this setup if my life depended on it.

No idea on how much I want to spend yet, just looking for good combinations right now.

I definately recommend the setup I showed above. Here's to give you an idea on the sub/amp cost:

My box is like this one:

Then you got two 1-farad caps that cost about $60 a piece. Next you got wiring kits (I prefer at least 2 guage, possibly, was told I needed heavier 0 guage).

It would be very easy to spend $1,000 on this setup, but it would be the last one you'd ever buy for a full size car or truck with an extended cab. It's very impressive. We tried it in a 1998 Honda Civic hatch back, and you couldn't yell loud enough to hear each other, sitting right next to each other in the front seats. We ran it in his car from 4 guage wiring straight from the battery with only 1 cap hooked up.

Hope this helps!
