so it's pretty much come down to a 93 Ford Explorer (the transmission and engine have already been rebuilt) or a 2000 Ford Victoria Police Interceptor. I can't decide which one to get. I love both vehicles. and don't tell me to get some other car as it's down to these two. I hear the crown victoria is pretty heavy duty and reliable while the Explorer isn't (although it has the rebuilt tranny and engine so it should last I would think). i just can't decide what would be the best buy.

and I sold the 2003 mazda protege because the 5speed was a pain in the terrible traffic here (which is ALL the time) and it was just way too small for me for any trip longer than a couple miles. I was going to keep my 94 explorer but it needs a new engine and a whole overhaul on the suspension. just not worth keeping.

A beat up police car or a busted ass Exploder.. ehhh well since I can't make any other suggestions, go with the Crown Vic.

ok you can make suggestions but I don't have to like them

I'm 6'6" and 240 pounds. I need something large and comfortable to be driving for long distances. I have like $2500 max to spend. that really doesn't leave many choices out there...

Why is it whenever somebody asks for opinions around here it sounds like they already have their mind made up when the opinions post?

Comfort is king. If there is a difference between the two rides, I would say, consider that.

All things the same, Vic.

crown vic if i had to choose..

but at the same time i dont think i could trust an early 90's ford to go long distances.

how did I make up my mind already? both vehicles are big and comfortable. as far as reliability goes, I am not sure. I read that the Police Interceptors are pretty reliable because of the better parts. I know Explorers generally are not but it has a new engine and transmission so I don't think I'd have to worry for a while. The Explorer is 4x4, which is nice in the winter here. The Crown Vic is rear wheel drive so I don't know how well it would be in the snow here. Another kicker is that the Explorer is $1500 and the crown victoria is $2200...

The Exploder if I had to pick between the two. The cruiser is going to have some serious engine and transmission wear from long periods of idling and quick accelerations.

Did you have a loan to pay off when you sold the Mazda? If not, I don't see why you wouldn't throw that money into a late-90s Altima, Camry or Accord as they're all fairly roomy and even if abused a bit are far more likely to last than the Fords.

Edit: RWD SUCKS in the snow. If you've got any amount of decent snowfall during the year you'll want to kill yourself if that's your main set of wheels.

no there was no loan from the mazda. but i can't afford a loan AT ALL right now. My g/f doesn't have a job and we are a $1000 a month short on bills when she doesn't work. plus my credit is terrible so I'd get 20% interest and then full coverage insurance would kill. and now, I couldn't even afford a loan for like a $1000. $2500 total in cash is about the max I can afford.

Dude for $2500 why don't you get a Toyota truck? Maybe even a early 90's 4 Runner? Way more reliable than a Ford product, about the same size.. probably a little better on gas than an Exploder. I don't know, maybe I'm biased but American cars just aren't made as good as they used to be.

pretty ironic. just a week ago i traded my green 95 explorer with 120k on it and picked up 05 gold exp 4 dr only 28k on it. Ford is pretty good when it comes to working with bad credit in my opinion. I will always take suv or truck over any thing lower.
Alot of people got beef with American car i never had a prob once. I currently own 02 Red 2dr Exp sport, 04 sport track black and now my new 4 dr gold 05 explorer. i been in ford family for over 20+ years, never had any prob with em. I regularly change all there fluids and some basic care taking.

i also have Silver Taurus SHO but one of my friend she claimed it so i gave it to her.

so i would say go with Exp if body dont have any rust and the internal are in fine condition then its not a bad deal.

on a mission to spread linux to every one

well i ended up getting a 92 Explorer. already had the engine rebuilt and only has about 30k on it. the transmission seems to be fine but I'm probably going to have my mechanic take the transmission out of my old explorer and I'll store it just in case something happens to my new one. Paid $1500 for the truck. I like it. now just gotta get better exhaust 'cause I got spoiled with the flowmaster on my old Explorer lol.

and nidex, I did look at toyota's but there wasn't any in my area in my price range unfortunately that were any good. there were only a couple even available but they had like 280k on them...

Word. If you're bitching about the bills, extraneous purchases should be the last thing you do.

obviously the exhaust thing was a joke if you didn't catch that...

and again, I said i looked at 4runners but for $2500 or less, there were only a couple and they were from 1987 and had like 280k on them. not an option.
