Don't get too excited, it's not really that great of a video:
http://videos.g33kd.net/talonporsche7carsflyingrace.mpg

At the end I slowed till about 20 MPH then jumped on it for the camera - it doesn't look very fast so it might confuse people.

Story: I think it was around 8 PM on a slightly foggy backroad closed private circuit parallel to the freeway. We had a spotter a mile or so down the road. I had just put in 5 gallons of C16 (116 octane leaded race fuel). If I remember correctly, Alex's car had only a chip at the time, running around 11.7@120 MPH. He was supposed to let me have a 7 car running head start at him (my car ran 12.9@105 at the time). I think he jumped the gun a little early, because I was only ahead of him for like 1/2 a second But anyway, his car MPH'd me pretty bad on top-end. The Porsche runs 10s now and I haven't driven it since it was running mid-11s. It's such a badass car!

Here are some more videos of his car and some friends:

I definitely agree! I won't try to race that car again unless I've got a much bigger turbo, possibly a stroker, and way more boost!

C'mon, you didn't honestly think you could take the 911, did you?

Not a 911 Turbo, those are like $130,000 and my car was $4,000

But when it was stock, we were close till around 110 MPH, especially from a stop. From 100+ the Porsche was much faster though.

Then he started modifying it. The chip gave him 110 HP or something - added 12 MPH to the trap speed, etc. Now it's like a full on race car.

I'm pretty sure the Porsche was patting the gas as well.

cool video, I'm eager for the days when I can run with turbo porches

how's the talon running these days? last I had heard you were running an upgraded SMIC, injectors and a small turbo upgrade? If thats all your packing right now, I would be damn proud of your car

It wasn't. I've driven that car twenty or so times, including racing it at Battle of the Imports and open track days. It's as fast as I said it was... remember I had a head start and he still beat me that bad in the race.

Compare the track times of the two cars and it's about what it should be in that race... My Talon may not seem very fast, but depending on the tune has between 300-350 HP and only weighs 3100 lbs with AWD. It's no slouch and surprises a lot of people. It'll rape most non-turbo Porsches (well, except Carrera GTs... GT3s might be a decent race), and give a good race with a stock 996 Turbo till 100 or so as mentioned... but this Porsche has over 100 HP more than a stock 911 Turbo.

And for the record, I'm proud of my bolt-ons 14 year old 4 cylinder's effort against a twin turbo super car.

It actually has the stock intercooler. The upgraded SMIC was a pain in the ass, mainly beacuse it was a ghetto setup. The other mods are: 550cc injectors, 3" exhaust (turboback, test-pipe), 16G turbo, 255 fuel pump, AFC... maybe a couple other small things. It runs pretty well. If I had a FMIC and actually had it tuned by a shop it'd probably be a lot faster - maybe it'd run low 12s or high 11s. A bigger turbo would be nice. I will probably modify it more once I move out of CA, but here the AC is needed and smog's a bitch.

wow, thats insane that you can push over 300HP on your stock IC! My factory TMIC is barly safe past 11 PSI on the stock turbo

How many hard runs can you make with that setup and the stock intercooler before it starts affecting the performance noticably?

1. It's really hard to say -- one time I made 8 back-to-back passes in around 45 minutes and the car wasn't really getting slower... but it was already slow.
