I usually carry less than 100 bucks on me.. especially since my work & alot of the places I go are in the moderate to above average ghetto range.

And why would I post something incriminating like that? Pssht.. lol.

The difference is I call and put a stop on the credit cards, and thanks to identity theft protection I don't lose anything but the phone call. And there's all the time I don't waste walking into gas stations or cashing checks. To me dealing in only cash is sorta old fashioned and goofy. Unless you're a criminal and don't want a paper trail of your purchases or whereabouts.

QFT. I'm actually surprised he had to ask.

I don't want to leave a paper trail, it's not because I'm a "criminal", but because this day and age the government is keeping tabs on everybody, and it's getting worse. Fuck that.

The right credit card has gotten me some nice rewards when I use it on gas and groceries, and has built a nice solid credit history. Can't do that with cash...

What exactly would you be buying with a debit/credit card that you would mind the government finding out about? They won't arrest you for buying dildo's by the dozen unless you're in Texas.

The only people I know who use cash for everything are generally tax cheats who work under the table, or otherwise have cash they need to dispose of that they would rather the government not know about.

MSP answered it. But just to clarify, it's a lot less of a big deal to cancel some cards than it is to lose your paycheck after you have it cashed.

No it's not

In 40 years, I lost and/or had one wallet stolen and lost one wallet that was returned to me cashless - total losses over about 40 years, about $87.

Cancelling credit cards IS a bigger deal. Plus, you are more certain to get fucked around for just using them. Credit card info is sold /given/shared freely with anyone who wants it. It is also stolen by crooks.

BTW, there is a backdrop to this discussion - I have had my credit card records stolen twice, my tax records stolen once, my credit record stolen, my records from Lexis Nexus stolen, my records from ChoicePoint stolen, my complete military records stolen, including my military medical records, and my complete medical records stolen from my health insurance company. No BS on any of these points. There is a price you pay for all that shit.

Tomorrow, if I lost $1000 out of my wallet, after 40 years, averaging it out, I would change nothing. If it happened twice in a week I might rethink it

Rough luck. But I'd rather call a number and cancel my card and have any fraudulent charges reversed than have my cash stolen/lost. My girlfriend just lost her wallet on the 4th of July at a lake. She had no cash. She called a few numbers, and had all of her accounts frozen and new cards on the way. Her loss? $0.00. If she would have had, say, $50.00 in her wallet, her loss would have been $50.00.

Hopefully you realize that your case where you got pretty much everything stolen is not the norm by any means. I'd rather build positive credit history than be afraid of what will probably not happen.

No shit. Tough luck indeed, maybe he should buy a lottery ticket since he's apparently the 1 in 1 : xxxxxxxxx.

Ha! My buddy works there. He says "Sorry about that!", and if it makes you feel any better they're downsizing everybody.
