I'm taking a motorcycle riding course June 27th-29th and then probably go to dmv and get my license the 30th.

Here is the deal.

I'm 6 '5" i don't want to spend more than 3k to buy a bike ... what do i get ? I've wanted a Honda CBR 600 since like 2001 but i cant find anything for the price i want.

I Have no sig cause i need no sig

If you're 6'5" you're likely going to be a bit uncomfortable on the CBR 600.

Yeah.. unfortunaly teg, crotch rockets are pretty small in most cases. I think your best bet may be a standard or something like a Suzuki SV650. I'm 6'0 and rode my buddies R6 for about an hour and it was rather uncomfortable.

You can get a newer (2005) DRZ400SM for around 3 grand.

You might want to try out a bigger 750 and see if that's more comfortable. Go hit up the dealerships and test ride a new one and then research older ones that are about the same size. Not sure what you can get for only 3k though, the 3/4 year old Hondas and Suzukis around here are at least 5k.

I'm short, so even the entry level Honda would work for me. And at an MSRP of $2,995 and 50MPG it would be a sweet deal for me. Wouldn't fit you at all though.

EDIT: 60MPG actually, check it out:

Great bikes. I had one as a starter bike, almost identical to this:
eBay Motors: Honda : Rebel (item 370054665897 end time May-31-08 08:08:43 PDT)

It was dark metallic blue in color, though. And mine was pristine.

Why would you take a motorcycle class? Pay money to ride shitty bikes and they tell you what you can and can't do. The best way to learn is just pick up a cheap bike and ride it around.

Because if it's anything like Colorado upon completion you get your motorcycle license without having to test out.

Yeah, here in Ohio you take the class and it's a rubber stamp at the DMV. Well worth the money.

The training options in your area may or may not be a worth your while. I'd talk to someone who has done it, and see if they vouch for it. Some are better than others of course.

Are Buells' bikes any larger, being American made?

I know in Canada you can insure for really cheap if your bike is 25 years or older, and is stock. We're talking < $100/year. Something to consider for starters.

Buells are generally 1200cc bikes. Generally very forgiving, and easy to ride. If you go for the Buell Blast (which I highly recommend), they are only 500cc single cylinder bikes which are incredible beginner bikes.

Buells are infamous for their low center of gravity, and very forgiving power band. Great bikes. Well built, and fun to ride.

I've heard the Buell XB9/XB12 are actually advanced bikes because they have such a short wheel base, steep rake, and gobs of torque. I have heard nothing but good things about the Blast as a beginner bike.

It is the same way here in Florida, you take a certified class and its just a matter of standing in line to get your motorcycle endorsement. Another plus is, if you are already familiar with riding bikes, it is quite entertaining watching some of the other people. Its similar to watching someone try and drive stick for the first time.

Just go in and sit on some bikes. Get yourself into a full tuck position and sit there for a few minutes. If it hurts there, it will be 100x worse on the road. Crotch rockets aren't comfortable.

I really really want a bike....but in the last 3 months I've had 3 friends die, because of people not paying attention, and have had a few friends lay down because of people pulling out in front of them.

so my town is a deathtrap for bikers.

I really want a Daytona 675 (most likely what I will get), or a Honda RC51( (although it may be a little overpowered for a novice rider, I LOVE this bike)

I've also toyed around with the idea of buying a ducati.999r. I do know of a race track not even 10 miles away....

Oh man seriously. I love triumphs more classic bikes. The Scrambler also makes me nervous in my pants.
