I've decided on a truck for my first vehicle but should I get a standard or automatic? I always wanted to drive stick but Im thinking clutching and shifting may be a bit of a distraction when im first learning to drive. What do guys think?

I'd recommend an auto, you have enough to worry about when your just learning to drive.

Takes maybe a day to be competent with stick. After a week it's old hat. Basically I'm saying it's a non-issue.

Si, traffic is the number one thing to take into consideration here as I see it. Manual + Stop and go traffic is no fun.

i agree. easier and safer for starters. OR certain car have like both choice but they cost arm and leg.

For first car get an automatic, especially as other's said if you're going to be in traffic. If you really want the shift on the fly sort of feeling, look for a used car with a manumatic of some sort.

I would recommend an automatic as well. Just one less thing to worry about as you are learning to drive. If you are gong to be driving in traffic a lot, it's also a huge pain to have a manual.

With an automatic, you don't have to worry about stalling out every time you stop.

Automatic. Modern autos do a great job of shifting so there's really no significant fuel related reason to pick a manual at this point. Some people prefer them for fun, but for a 1st car you should be concentrating on other things.

Oh and unless you absolutely need a truck, get a car. Being a teenager you're going to make crap for money and gas isn't going to get any cheaper anytime soon.

Me getting a truck is a must, I need to be able to carry tractors and lawnmowers back and forth as well as my Atv. As far as money goes I already have about 9000 saved up but im only going to spend about 1500-2500 on a used Chevy s10 and probably fix it up with some new parts and engine rebuild. Gas shouldn't be that bad with a 4.3L V6 as compared to a full size truck my dad has.

having a gas guzzler will help you out, youll be spending your money on gas instead of booze or drugs

4.3's are shitty on gas for the size of the motor/amount of weight it moves.. at least that's the way I feel about it. And if you live anywhere except the city, manual is the way to go.
