I had a problem with one of my speakers last night where the wires came off, it was the stock wiring any ways. So i went to walmart and picked up some stuff, and when i got home i looked at the speaker wire, its 18AWG is that to high for a car speaker system.

I make myself laugh.

Depends how much power you're running through them. 18ga should be fine for your mids and highs (assuming you're not running those amped). I wouldn't use it for anything powered more than 50W especially if it a long piece aka going to the back dash of the car.

^ concur with the above...
I'd definately consider taking it back and getting some 12-14 gauge though if your running any sort of aftermarket speakers at any good level.
heres a good table ot refer to for wire size:

all right, i will leave the splints i have on there and get some 12 gauge. My head unit is 50 watts, and my amps are (when i install them) 50 watts

Actually it looks like 10 or 9 would be better for my car.

I make myself laugh.
