so a friend of mine hit a pole in his 96 rav 4, the whole mirror frame is shattered, so i think that we have to replace the whole mirror, does it require us to remove the door and stuff? because we really don't know electronic mirrors and stuff, so would it be better to go to a bodyshop?

At the minimum you're going to have to remove the interior door panel to get to the wiring and find the mount for the mirror. Go get a tear apart manual as it'll tell you how much work you're going to have to do.

i would recommend a Chilton's if available. My Hayne's manual doesn't really go into detail on fixes of that nature. It's pretty much just the mechanical aspect. But I've never read a Chilton's. So if you're gonna buy it, be sure you can return it. There are other manuals out there, and you could probably find the information on the internet... But I love having a teardown manual of my vehicles for quick references and troubleshooting on my cars.

Most cars just have a little plastic piece on the inside of the door where the mirror is. Pry it off, or unscrew it. Sometimes the screw/nut is hidden under a pop off tab. Then it's usually 2 or 3 nuts that hold it on, and a harness for the wires.

And what the fuck is a mirror frame?

Aw hell man, a little super glue and those little broken pieces and it'll be good as new...

There are a lot of online forums, that might be a place to start for info about replacing the mirror assembly
