I'm thinking of slowly restoring one of my vintage cruisers piece by piece.

First piece I want to do is a chrome storage rack that is almost completely rusted the chrome off of it. Is there any easy way to replicate chrome without actually sending it to a place to be done professionally? some sort of spray or something? I know there's automotive style brush on paint, but I'm not sure about chrome.

theres no way to make it look even close to real chrome. that chrome paint is really cheesy and flakes off.

Yeah, the only alternative really is going to be a silver paint of some sort but it's going to look HORRIBLE.

thx for the links miller. Yeah I figured I wasn't going to be able to get away with it but it was worth the shot in the dark.

by the way it's not a motorcycle, just bicycle. but still looking to get some paint/chrome work done on it, I guess I'll check around town for chromers.

Don't forget about chrome powdercoating. They can get pretty damn close to chrome and it's much cheaper than electroplating. Check out you local places, for a small piece like that, i bet the cost wouldn't be too much.

yeah I talked to a friend of mine who runs a shop in town (bike shop that is) and he directed me to a company that just opened up here that does frame powdercoating and chroming as well.

thanks though. perhaps there will be more paint questions as soon as it gets warm enough to think about doing that kinda stuff.
