| | Power steering and trainy for a Ford Ranger? | permalink #1 |
| Globe Trekker | Hey guys, help me out with this question. My buddy has run his truck into the ground, hasn't maintained it. And now his power steering is leaking and grinding, the trainy is leaking and slipping, and he's got a big ass spider web crack on the windshield to boot! Any idea what the cost range to have the steering unit and trainy fixed might be? Last edited by MSP : 09-13-2006 at 06:22 AM. | |

| Tweak Minion | if his power steering has leaked enough to run the pump dry and fry the pump.. probialy a couple hundred to have a shop do it tranny, this is where i wonder whether its worth it or not to keep the truck, if its slipping it prob needs a rebuild, looking at the 1000+ range there, they have to remove it and tear that complicated thing apart... then find the leak windshield... couple hundred buy your friend a skateboard | |

| Globe Trekker | Thanks, that's almost exactly what I figured. Probably $1,500 bucks for everything, and the truck has 150,000+ miles on it... | |

| Habitual line stepper | I'm assuming it's a manual, but couldn't the slipping just be the clutch? If it's just a clutch it shouldn't break a couple hundred(parts). One of my bosses just got his 94 ranger's window replaced for something like $100, so that ain't much. MSP, if those trucks are maintained, they will last for ever. The one stated above has 286,000 miles on it, and is still on Engine/Tranny #1. | |

| Globe Trekker | 1993-1994, automatic transmission. I chatted with him earlier and he continues to think it's no big deal. The trainy slips and grinds, and the steering grinds. He adds fluid every few days, but seems to be completely oblivious to the fact than ANY grinding probably equates to damage. I guess I'll just drop it and pitch in on that skateboard... | |

| Tweak Minion | if your automatic transmission isnt filled the the right level all the time it cant run at the pressure it was designed for, clutchs wear out and things go wrong fast... hence why i turned my truck into a manual, because leaks happen and i cant afford to be stranded in the middle of nowhere | |

| Habitual line stepper | If it's an automatic, it's fucked. Unless you can pick up an automatic tranny, used for cheap. Actually, The guy I sold (the remains of) my ranger to still has the automatic tranny out of it. Just spend $800 in gas getting it, and you could get a deal | |
