so my friend wants his is300 rims painted, but their the chrome ones, but as long as i sand them, will the chrome get sanded off?

You really shouldn't paint wheels. Rocks and road debris will tear the paint right off. Brake dust is also a problem with painted wheels. If you want colored wheels, there's only 2 ways I would go. Anodized or powdercoat.

I painted the rims on my s2000 and it turned out great, never chipped. just make sure you use several coats of clear

no experience with chrome though, sorry

...but if he's gonna do it...

Get rid of the chrome. Sand with a fine grit paper. use a metal etching primer. wet sand and spray 2/3 coats base. 1-2 coats clear. wet sand and polish.

BTW that chrome needs to be blasted or acid dipped.

If you can get the chrome loose a little bit, it will peel off.
