| | Opinions on a more fuel efficient car | permalink #1 |
| Lord Of Porn | As most people know I drive a 2006 Honda Civic and recently one of my friends proposed I install a cold air intake and install an exhaust that allows better airflow. This should provide a little power boost and a more efficient car. The intake I will probably end up buying: advanced Flow engineering (aFe) Air Filters & Intake Systems On the above site it lists two different part numbers for the same item. It looks like the difference is that one has a filter that you can wash and not have to apply any kind of filter oil to. I will probably buy that one. Cost with shipping: ~$195 This will be installed by my friend so no install fee thank god. The exhaust I can get real cheap. I specifically told my friend I want something as quiet as possible. He said he has a friend that installs them and has a lot of spare high flow low noise mufflers since everyone wants the "loud" ones. Any opinions? Last edited by Mr. Ali; 05-07-2008 at 08:57 PM. | |

| Hot crackers! | Do it. My 96 Accord had both an intake and an aftermarket exhaust that the previous owner had put on the vehicle and driving across country I was able to get 36 mpg going about 85/90 and around LA freeways I consistently saw 32 mpg, plus I got 24ish in city and I did/do not have a light foot while driving. (The quoted mpg from Fueleconomy.gov is 26 highway, 20 city) Hrmmm, this has gotten me reconsidering getting an intake for my new (to me) Accord. Edit: Apparently the LX didn't get the VTEC (though I could have sworn it did) so it got 28 mpg according to fueleconomy.gov, still I got 8 mpg over the average. | Lord Of Porn | I already ordered the AFE, I heard they are a good brand. Plus I think the AEM was around $60 more. | |

| Tweak Minion | heh at least it's better than the 12mpg i get out of my explorer or so. hopefully that will get better when I get the alignment issue fixed. need to take off the roof rack. i don't have stock tires either so I may get stock the next time I need tires. every little bit helps. i'm sure my truck needs a tune up as well so hopefully i can squeeze a few more mpg out of this thing. | |

| outside the box! | I plan on having a super efficient hydrolizer installed on my truck this Decenber. Should increase fuel economy close to 90%. I have a few designs to try out. if it does better than putting 4 oz of acetone in a tank of fuel, I'll feel like it's worth it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcGUapTffoM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAVbHZkWtNo Last edited by mistawiskas; 05-09-2008 at 04:31 AM. | |

| Hood Rich | A filter on a stick and an open exhaust will hardly help you.. maybe a couple MPG, and like 2hp, and for the record.. DX = base model everything, no power windows, locks, steering sometimes, AC, etc. LX = all power options, no VTEC EX = all power options, VTEC, sunroof | |

| Lord Of Porn | I installed my cold air intake today with the help of my friend. It took us about an hour or so. I always track my MPG so I will figure out if this helped at all. The new filter area looks really slick but I dont really care about that. One complaint tho, above 3000rpm the engine area is a little louder. I kinda knew it was going to sound different but just wish it wasn't louder. | |

| Hood Rich | Haha, you should have known it was going to be louder. You don't like hearing your car? | |

| Jolly Roger | You should have just gotten some PVC piping and a K&N filter. Would have done the exact same thing and cost like $50 :P if you think the intake is loud DO NOT get an exhaust. | |

| Lord Of Porn | Yeah, I am most definitely not getting a different exhaust now. The intake doesn't sound bad but its just different and was not expecting it. | |

| I grew up here | No offense, but you must not have done much research if you expected the intake to sound stock... | |
