So as you all know, I sold my 2001 4Runner Limited (for $13,500). Here is my replacement, the 2007 Impreza Wagon.

So far I really like it. I test drove a 2002 and a 2008 just to get the feel for them. The 2002 I was never planning on buying, I Just wanted to play, the 2008 was nice, but cost a little more and I really don't like how it looks.

Going from my 4Runner to this was an easier transition than I expected. Sitting that low on the ground is really not as strange as I thought it might feel, the only thing that is really going to take some getting used to is rear viability. The mirrors and rear window on my 4Runner were quite large which meant great rear viability, but since this is a small hatchback, mirrors and windows are much smaller. Beyond that small issue, everything else feels natural and good. I may miss my heated leather seats and sunroof though

Its a sporty little car (by my standards, I've never really been in "performance" cars) and is pretty enjoyable to drive. I think I made a good decision.

As for changes/mods/upgrades/whatever, I'm probably going to tint all the windows (except for the front of course) and get some crossbars for the roof-rack. Beyond that I don't really care about performance upgrades, unless there is something easy (intake/exhaust?) that would give real-world fuel economy improvements without making me sound like a ricer.

Comments, thoughts, ideas, insults, whatever!

Good choice on the wagon, the new sedans definitely fail to live up to the looks of the previous Imprezas.

A really nice looking car I think. I hope when you say you're going to tint the windows except the front, you meant the driver and passenger window, not the windshield.

Really nice ride man. How's the AWD? Does it feel like it sticks to the road?

Yah, I meant tint all around except for the front windshield of course.

As for how the AWD feels, I've really not had a chance to test it out much to say, but I feel pretty planted to the road from what I've felt so far.

I paid $15,800 which is just slightly under KBB value.

As for the 'wagon' guy, you need to see somewhere like Seattle to get it To give you an idea, my dad has a Volvo Cross Country, both sisters drive Outbacks, and so does my brother. So I make the 5th AWD wagon in my family, the 4th from Subaru.

They are kind of the car for the outdoor type here.

wow, cars are so much cheaper in the states then in Canada. Used I imagine?

My friend has an 04 WRX wagon thats been good to him so far.

I'm interested to see what kind of gas mileage you get out of it.

Automatic? shoulda gone with a stick, you would have saved yourself some money and would have gotten better gas mileage.

The boxer engines actually sound pretty decent with an exhaust system, but don't expect much in the way of added power or fuel economy.

Of course its used, but the new price starts at "only" $17,500. Again, I thought the 08s are ugly as hell, so another reason to buy the 07.

I'll be sure to report back with my gas mileage, but this tank doesn't count because I'm messing with it and testing it out

As for the automatic, I'm too lazy to drive stick. I'm not really a car person, I just want something that is easy to drive but still enjoyable. And tell you the truth the Impreza wagon is hard to find period, I don't think I would have found a stick in my price/year range even if I was looking for one.

And if you don't think there is anything fairly simple I can do to improve gas mileage, I guess I wont bother.

an intake will help slightly, you can simply get a K&N filter and some PVC piping and make yourself one for $50 or so. difference will be minor.

Keeping everything in proper running order, tires fully inflated/balanced/aligned and as little unnecessary weight in the car are the best things you can do. on a Natrual aspirated car even the way you drive isn't going to make a significant difference, just don't floor it and slam on the brakes at every stop and your good.

What MPG are you getting in that?

I'm thinking about getting one of these when I graduate and pay off my loans.

Jake, do you have an '08?

I got 25.xx MPG on my last tank and that was kind of mashing the gas a bit, so I'm guessing my next tank will be more like 27ish?

I got it tinted last weekend, 20% all the way around (no windshield of course). I had 15% on my 4Runner and while it looked great, nighttime viability out the windows was terrible, so I went the next step lighter on the Impreza. I think it looks great with the tint, and the place did a really good job as well. Only $219 too.

Who are we kidding, ALL of them are ugly! The 2007 only less so. And that's coming from a guy driving a CR-V. I know ugly.
