Even though natural gas burns cleaner, I have to question the logic of trading burning one kind of limited supply fuel for another...

It's a natural resource we have a lot of. And it would buy us time. Obviously it's not a 100 year solution, but given that people generally drive a vehicle for 10 years or so it could help us out for decades.

Is it really that much better? Can you notice a big difference between normal radio and HD radio?

Oh totally.. The only thing that sucks about HD Radio is that when it loses its signal the transition back to analog sounds robotic sometimes. I don't know how it is in the West, but I live close enough to NYC where most of the stations are broadcasting in HD and I get a great signal.

The quality though is so, so, so extremely noticeable, especially in AM. I was blown away when my moms boyfriend turned to his AM Mets station, and after it kicked into HD it sounded like a 320k mp3. Instead of the voices in AM being very distant and hollow, it was in your face, literally. You get a very cool before/after listen since the HD does take a good 10 seconds to kick in while turning to that station.

FM sounds a bit better than CD Quality. Lows, Mids, Highs are all so sharp and clear..

Definitely the best 110 bucks I've ever spent on an electronic product.

EDIT: $1.55-2.00 here around Cincinnati. Simply amazing.
It varys from where your at. I'm pretty sure natural gas out here in So Cal is dirt cheap compared to other areas.

So I wonder how many years worth of natural gas we have? I've done some reading and just the United States has 1190 trillion cubic feet. Worldwide it's about 6200 trillion cubic feet. Sounds like a resource that will be around for a little while.

So yeah, this Civic NG is looking pretty interesting. I've been reading about the hydrogen fuel cell Honda too, but I'm a little fuzzy as to how the fuel is supposed to be produced. They show a home fueling solution as well:

Honda FCX Clarity - Home Energy Station - Official Web Site

They have a machine that they lease you, which basically breaks down natural gas and separates the hydrogen and puts it into the fuel cells. With whatever's left from the reaction you produce heat. Or at least that's what I got from it.

I've spoken to some people in the industry and my enthusiasm for natural gas has faded. Electric car + solar panels = the energy companies can blow me.
