I requested a quote, and the first quote I recieved from a dealer for a 2006 Civic Si-HPT was $21,500 + T,T& L. Autos.msn lists the MSRP on the SI w/ the hi performance tires @ $20,490.

The information there from autos.msn has been stable @ that price for months now. Do these things get more expensive as demand goes up?

Is this a bad deal?

Dealer mark-up?

Dealer Markup? Forgive my ignorance, but what is that? This is the first time I've bought a new car and I'm trying to do this absolutely right.

I'm not exactly sure either. I found this quote online.

Quote:
"ADM" or "ADP" Charges (Additional Dealer Markup)
Bogus charges added by greedy dealers. It means "Additional Dealer Markup" or "Additional Dealer Profit", and appears on a sticker next to manufacturer's MSRP sticker. I call it Arrogant Dealer Markup. ADM is an artificial buffer to bargain down the price. If ADM is $1000 and you talk them down $800, you still paid MSRP plus $200 for the car! If you see this toxic waste, have them nix it. One buyer of a Honda Civic got the dealer to drop a $1995 ADM! But what if she had no idea what was going on?
I've heard the term on other forums, that's why it came to mind.

edit: I don't how true all this stuff is but it's pretty intresting

on a diesel forum some guy found out how much the car lots pay for a new duramax plus a couple hundred markup, lets say 40k, he wrote out a letter saying he would buy the model truck(wrote the options and such) from the dealer who could give him that price first, faxed it all around the country and h got a call within a few minutes and he went there and bought it, if i was buying a new car i would try that way

If you know how to haggle, you can 90% of the time get a local dealer to give you the price you want within reason of what they got it for. Obviously, this isn't true on cars that sell like crazy even with dealer markup

So, suppose I find a good deal in Cali for the Civic. What am I supposed to do? Drive all the way to Cali to pick it up? Fly there? The gas alone would be more than 100 bucks. Did he get the car delivered?

Sweet jeebus. I just finished reading that page I linked. All 7 chapters. Wow. That is ALOT of information. I'm so mind numb right now. But it all seemed extremely useful. Maybe someone with experience can read some of it over and confirm some of it? Really good read though.

I have personally sold cars on multiple occasions at my Dad's shop, and have had plenty of car salesmen for friends. Believe me, this is damn near all true. Only believe what is in black and white on paper. If it isn't in the contract, you WILL NOT get it. I have used many of the same tactics while selling vehicles, I will admit. I would never do it again, though. I mainly did it becuse it was my only source of income. I would never do it again, and I don't admit that it's right, though. I just recommend that everyone be cautious when buying vehicles. Read every little note and clause in the contract. It pays off in the end.

make sure you get the navi!

also, before you jump on the Si, check out the mazdaspeed6. AWD, 280 turbo HP, very nice car. In most places you can find em for 7-8K off MSRP, so about 20-24K.

waitup... 20 K on the mazdaspeed 6? Do you have to con the dealership or something? lol. wow.

Does it have a limited slip differential like the SI? Does it handle as well?

they are more like the Legacy GT than the wrx

Before you pull the trigger on anything, the mazdaspeed3 is coming.

i want to trade in my 06 civic for the SI so bad. the main reasons i am not going to do this:

1. worse gas milage
2. needs premium gas
3. manual (i suck)
4. higher car payments
5. higher insurance payments (going from 4door sedan to 2 door "sports" car)

its a bigger engine in the SI. 2.0 liters instead of 1.6. It probably consumes a very slight amount more. He has the same point as my parents stressed to me concerning the insurance rates, but @ the end of the day, this is my first new car ever and if I'm shelling out anything over 10 grand, I want to make damn sure I get what I really want (that is economically feasable).

@ the mazda3...2 things that will steer me away from that one:

1. i don't want a hatchback
2. i don't want to pay 24 grand on a car. If I were to pay 24-25 grand, I'd just step up and buy a 350 Z.

What I'm going for is: <=$20 for a sporty, fun, and above average speed car w/ room for improvements. The SI doesn't have any forced induction, but both of the Mazda's they are selling did. It looks like they are basically selling an SI equivelent w/ the forced induction included out of the factory. I also like the look of the new Honda coupes.

4dr civic

30/40MPG

2dr civic si

23/32MPG

thats a pretty big fucking difference factoring the increased price in the premium gas you pay and thats a lot of money in the end.
