| Balls of Steel | My friend has a 1980's Camaro for sale, its in good condition with 118,072 miles on it. I still have about a year before I can get my permit then eventually my lisence. Though I thought it was a good deal at $900 and some extra for fixing it up. Since im going into automotive for a trade I though I would work on this until I was old enough to drive it. It all sounds good but the only thing is how much would the insurance cost me??? I should also add its a small block V8 with manual transmission. |

| Globe Trekker | Insurance will fuck your ass, especially if you're under 25. Plus it's a Camaro... |

| Tweak Minion | i know you don't want to hear this but don't get that for a first car. get a civic or something. you don't need all that power and speed (and massive costs for insurance and gas) at 16 years old. It's only going to get you in trouble. I know how you feel though, I always wanted a camaro for my first car but decided against it and got an Acura Legend. I don't regret it at all. I got a Mustang later on when I was 20 or so. Just my 2 cents anyways... |

| Tweak Minion | Are you going to want to do any performance mods to it? If you are looking for something to hop up, I would definately get it. You can't find as wide of a selection for so cheap as for a SBC. There is so much information out there on that small block it would be an excellent first project car. Insurance might be a killer, maybe you can have your mom listed as the primary driver? It may not be as bad on fuel as you think. If you get ambitious, you can put fuel injection on it. Several of my friends have 3rd gen camaros with a 350 and fuel injection and they get close to 30mpg when they are not racing it. |

| Formerly jag_e_fattig | Get a volvo, a 740 turbo sedan would be a perfect. Cheap and easy to service and insure, gets decent fuel economy, very reliable and can be made pretty damn fast for almost no money. |

dont buy it. first, your going to get in trouble with it, just like i did with my firebird. get a civic or something first. i wish i had. Second. a 350 never came with a manual transmission, meaning its a 305 TBI or even worse 305 carb. worthless engine. 170hp outta the box pushing a 3400 lb car, not very fast. most of those engines were also one wheel wonders. third, 30mpg, your fucking nuts, 20 on a good day babying it which hes not going to do. forth. insurance is going to run you 130ish for liability, thats what mine was when i first got it. why not but a shit civic and save your money to buy a nice early 90's z28 or irocz, find one thats cherry and you can stick some money into, cuz if you buy this pos, you gonna end up sticking 4 grand into it and it wil end up being as fast as a z28/iroc. then it will fall apart on you dont make my mistakes kiddo | |

| El Chupacabra | My first ride suckah! ![]() I was determined to drive it to the moon. It had 174,000 miles on it when I let my sister start driving it. Biggest mistake ever. I was out of the country for a while, I get back and the thing was dead. She didn't change the oil once, drove it like an idiot and killed it. |

| Balls of Steel | Well you all have convinced me to drop the deal, Im definatly going to get something to fix up, im going to look into a small chevy s10 with 4 wheel drive. Ill see this summer when im allowed to buy a car. I guess once my sister moves out I could get another car and just have it registered for racing at the track in upstate CT. Though at the rate it looks like my girlfriend will be moving in and taking up my sisters space haha but id gladly give that up for my girlfriend. |

| Former Alcoholic | the most efficient tpi models were rated at 17/25. brand new in the 80's, that was 20 years ago. and we all know those numbers are overrated, now unless your buddies are poppin in 4 bangers and cuttin off 1000 lbs, i call bullshit. might you be talking about the "iron duke" used in the early 80's, that might have gotten close to 30mpg on the freeway don't get me wrong, i love these cars, i just think if your going to make it a project car, dont try to fix up and RS, especially putting headers and exhaust and think its a 10 second car. if you have any questions let me know, i've owned two of them. |

| Balls of Steel | Im 15 now and my girlfriend is 14, she is always fighting with her parents and her dad is a redneck jerk (dont get me wrong I like rednecks just not her dad) so most likely she will come to live with me if she kicked out at 16. Right now ive got everything in mind from an 80's civic to a chevy S-10. The civic would not be a bad choice because ive got a motor and transmission from an 85-87 with only about 75,000 miles. Though a small truck would not be bad since I live in the north east and were suppost to get snow..... Plus im always bringing home lawnmower and tractors to work on (Daddy Daddy its a john deere! can I keep him!) LoL |
