Industry News: Heathrow to get world's first Personal Rapid Transport system

Quote:
The airport claims there will never be more than an 18 second wait, no delays due to congestion and no need to consort with the rest of the riff-raff from steerage. It's likely this new PRT system will be the first of many, as local governments seek to replace car use within city centers.
I remember seeing these things in a documentary once.

^^ Personal rapid transit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It doesn't seem to be the same thing really. I guess these are more flexible.

Seems exactly the same to me. I really dont see what the difference is. That crap on wikipedia is retarded, who cares if the care holds 10 people instead of 4. Also, I dont see how it says its not point to point. You go in the station, pick your destination, then the car opens and takes you there. The only time it doesn't work like that is at night when there is nobody riding it

I didn't read the whole article, but think it travels along a large grid. People get in, choose where they want to go, and it takes the most direct route within that grid, as opposed to being confined to a static circuit.

Docks that take in those large shipping crates have been using an intelligent version of this for awhile.
