I rented one last week in South Carolina and I HIGHLY recommend nobody buy one. The styling is nice and I really wanted to like it, but there's virtually nothing going for it. The engine is underpowered and moans awkwardly, particularly under load. Merging onto the highway or otherwise punching it is an uncomfortable affair. Road noise is pronounced, and the whole thing shimmied and shook and made all sorts of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang type noises. This car only had 10,000 miles on it, shouldn't have sounded like that. The interior space is OK, but visibility out sucked because of the thick pillars and tiny rear window and high seat backs. So anyway, if you're thinking of buying or renting one think again!

I've never done this before, but when I returned the car to the rental place I actually complained. In a friendly sort of way, but I told the guy what a dog the car was and how much I hated to drive it. He jumped right in! "Oh yeah, those things are shit! People always ask for them and I think "Why?"" We worked it out so that I'll get something better when I return.

Are you sure it is all calibers? I mean, I know rental cars are so well taken care of and all... I don't really like them and wouldn't buy one either way though.

Good point. THIS Caliber was a piece of shit. But I had read some brutal reviews before I got behind the wheel. Consumer Reports and Edmunds ripped it up pretty good.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TELLING PEOPLE

When I was in the car accident, I had a Caliber for 2 and a half weeks. It was honestly the worst thing I have ever driven. Couldn't see a damn thing, had problems shifting, felt like a shitty go-kart, etc.

It was the only option I had, unfortunately. Getting back into the CR-V was like getting into a Maserati.

Edit: I was one of the first renters of the caliber that I had. It only had ~500 miles.

MSP, I rented one for driving around when I was out of town too. They're terrible, gutless pieces of crap. The interior isn't too bad, but god...no balls on the highway, really poor acceleration...it was terrible.

I'm heading to the same place today, actually. Last time, I had the option between that or a newer malibu. I'm thinking Malibu this time.

it was such a piece of shit, i dont know why anyone would buy one. underpowered, the thing was made sooo cheaply. the think had blood stains all over the interior. but we took good care of it. pulling the ebrake at 40. puttin it into park at 15.

Ha! Ditto here. I was making my first entrance onto the highway in my CR-V and said "Now THAT is what I'm talking about. Daddy missed you..."

I don't like Dodge's new lineup at all. I kind of feel the Avenger but all I really want is the Dodge Charger R/T or higher. Too bad it's a gas guzzlar. I don't like the Calibar at all. It reminds me like it belongs as shoes for Voltron.

So I'm renting right the 2008 Dodge Avenger. It's actually REALLY nice. Nice and quiet on the highway, decent handling, nice looking interior. Unfortunately, at 6-foot-3, I can't put the seat back any further, so I feel like a big fat guy driving a really small car. If someone just gave me one of these and said it's mine, I wouldn't hesitate in the least.

Dodge just can't seem to make a decent mid-sized to small car. Think about it: PT Cruiser, Caliber, Neon, Shadow, Omni... Decades and decades of shitty little cars.

14 dollars worth of insurance is worth thousands of dollars worth of good times.

I have a 02 Neon and I'm satisfied with it. It's underpowered but great on gas.

When I get a new car and have some extra cash, I'm ripping out the engine and putting a SRT4 into it.
