Ford Sells Jaguar, Land Rover to Tata: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance

Can't decide whether this is good news for Jag and Land Rover or not... time will tell I guess.

Since the beginning of time, t'was written in the stones that one day a band would come. Well, that band has come, and now they're here to come again, in your ear-pussies. - Tenacious D

I'd imagine that the production quality can only stay on par or go up.

Ford did a horrible job with jaguar and land rover so hopefully it will be better. India is getting richer and richer so hopefully they'll use this as a show of their wealth and put out some ridiculous cars.

Maybe they'll use this as an opportunity to get back at the Brits for colonizing India ;P

ahahahaha

If that's the case they'll rebadge it with some big elephant hood ornament, make them extremely ugly, and put a union jack on the hood.

How do you figure?

Land Rover was in big trouble before ford picked them up. Haven't you seen the 300+ improvement to the LR series SUVs? Land Rover's or late have been luxurious and not lacking in the capability department either.

This could go either way in my books. A change of ownership doesn't necessarily mean a change in development or production. Just ownership changing hands.

No doubt. I've never been, but some German's where I work described the kids pooping on the side of the street. Nice civilization they have there...

This can only be good news for Jaguar and Range Rover though. Both are shit right now, nowhere to go but up!

Jags are fucking sexy. My friend's in the process of selling his 2001 XJR. I'm going to miss that car... it's so damn nice. he had an XKR earlier and loved it, too. The S-Type was "meh" and I admit I haven't seen many since '03 or so, but the top-end Jags have been quite nice for at least a decade.

I think they should spend some of those customer support dollars (citibank, microsoft thank you very much) and design a new XKE. As for India itself, I spent a few hours in Deli international on a layover back around 97. It was disgusting. On top of that, the US had just objected to the Indian government the day before for testing a nuclear weapon. Prob knowing I was on the manifest, as we got off the plane they lined us all up checking passports. They got to me, I had a US diplomatic passport at the time, and took me away and pulled my bags off the plane. They searched through my bags in front of everyone, squeezing out my toothpaste and everything, I guess to humiliate me. Some guy from the embassy showed up and gave them a bunch of shit, they took some happy pics and I was back on the plane, minus my toothpaste. The young guys going through my bags were actually cool, they spoke English and said "were just doing our job, be cool and this will be over soon". I may go back some day.

You're right, they were in trouble before Ford bought them.. but since Ford has been on the downslope for years I don't think they really did too much to promote sales or get a new model out and get people excited about LR or Jaguar again. Land Rovers can usually sell themselves but if they're going to survive, they need to make some money. India is booming with cash and people these days so if they can put out a cheap model that sells like Jeep Grand Cherokee's or something, that would be great to get some cashflow going.
