| | I heart my Talon | permalink #1 |
| Tweak3D Webmaster | I'm visiting my parents in Poulsbo, WA -- and it's pouring down rain. I went to visit my sister (about 20 miles from here) and decided to have a little fun in my baby. I haven't driven this car hard (around corners) really for at least a year but found the combination of rain and backroads to be irresistible. Keep in mind, my Talon's AWD, with the motor in the front... since the "basics" are a FWD, the power tends to pull the car through turns rather than push it, making it very predictably oversteer/understeer. I can't remember the last time I drove it hard, but it's now got new AGX adjustable shocks and a huge 1" rear sway bar, giving the car noticeably more oversteer. The car also has H&R springs and brakes from a 3000GT (with Hawk HPS pads, Brembo rotors, and 17" wheels) so it handles pretty well anyway. Oh and for some reason, the turbo/exhaust always sound amazing in the rain... I don't know why, but it's always been that way. The cold air helped the turbo to be extra loud and the car pulled great. Cliff notes: Took a 25-MPH exit/onramp at about 50-60 MPH *sideways* drifting WOT/boosting 15-16 PSI in the pouring down rain, and took 20 miles of pitch-black, slicked, twisting woodsy backroads at irresponsibly fast speeds while blasting my iPod's electronic playlist (Oakenfold, Ellen Allien, misc trance stuff). I had the biggest grin by the time I got to my sister's house, even if I burned through a 1/4 tank of 92 octane gas getting there. I couldn't have picked a better car for this particular drive/night! | |

| Jolly Roger | I know exactly what you're talking about What kind and size of tires do you have on it right now? How are you liking the AGX's so far? | |

| Tweak3D Webmaster | I've had 215/45/17s on it since I bought it. I ran Dunlop Sports for a long time but switched to some cheap ass Essenza Type Rs (apparently made by Goodyear) a couple years back. Since the only racing I was doing was drag racing I couldn't justify something nicer but some day I'll put some good rubber on there. But they aren't bad and are still good enough for me. The AGXs are pretty awesome and sure beat the blown-out GR2s I had before | |

| Jolly Roger | nice is that on a 17x7.5 I imagine? I'm running BFG G-Force Sports in 245/40/17 all around on a 17x8 and the grip is phenomenal! my rear sway bar made a huge difference aswell(as it should on cars like ours) went a long way to help the understeer. I'm still on the OEM suspension, my GT-FOUR only has about 30 000 miles(50K kilometer) so its still rides really well but its way to soft for my likeing. I'm hoping to get something nice this year if I have any money left over after I get a house this summer. the suspension choices for my car are a little limited though unless you want to drop 3K+ on some serious race stuff. I was orignally going to just get a set of Tien SS coilovers but now i'm thinking more along the lines of koni yellow's with Ground control coilovers. I could do AGX's and TRD/eibach/H&R springs for about half the cost of them though which is still a posibility aswell. cars cost to much money. | |

| Hood Rich | Nothing quite beats boost. That's what I'm gonna miss now that I'm trying to drop the Audi on somebody. | |

| Jolly Roger | why not replace it with another boosted car? Being boost deficient can have many negative effects on you're life! | |

| Hood Rich | Whatever I get I guarantee will be boosted.. maybe not from the factory.. but still boosted. It sucks when your car breaks and you can't ever find parts for it. That's why I don't think I can do this anymore. GT3071 LS/VTEC DA sounds like a pretty good plan.. got easy access to alot of those parts. | |
