You know, these things:

Do they actually help keep rocks, bugs, dirt, whatever from hitting your hood or windshield?

Oh, and I just found a bunch of sites that sell OEM Subaru stuff, and I guess I can get rubber floor mats (front and rear seats) and a cargo mat for only like $110, instead of like $160+ from aftermarket companies, so I'm pumped about that.

Get a clear bra, or whatever they're called. just a clear sheet they lay on.

Won't help your windshield, but i've had many people tell me it has saved their hood.

They certainly work in making the car look ugly. I've never known anyone who's raved about them... do you drive on gravel roads a lot behind big trucks? I don't generally have rocks thrown on my car very much and it is very low to the ground and the nose sits just below knee height. My paint, for the most part, is flawless and the car is 10 years old now (though I did have it repainted after being stolen and recovered).

I live in Alaska and never see anybody have these. I think it would just work as a way to deflect it a little. Dont see any true value though.

Almost all the Outback Legacy owners in Colo have them but they're usually living off dirt/gravel roads. Though considering the hood on my RSX was pitted all over, I've considered getting one for my Accord.

Edit: To actually answer the question in the OP, not sure from personal experience but people around here have them and the roads are notorious for kick shit up onto the hood and windshield. It's just a pity they look so stupid.

i thought about getting the clear stick on "bra" protectors.. but never did buy a set.

i suggest buying the clear set... unless you wanna drive around with a BRA on your car...

there's one on my truck. can't say if it does or doesn't help as I've never taken it off since I got it. I can't say I'd personally buy one if my vehicle didn't have one already though. I doubt they help that much.

as a matter of fact, i read around that dirt and grit gets under the bras and the bras actually scratch the grit into the paint from rubbing.

dunno the truth about that claim but it kinda makes sense.

that actually makes sense. you can't hide from dirt. it gets into everything, no matter how hard you try.

but there is a difference between a car bra and hood protector. i think 950 is talking about a hood protector, which really wouldn't cause that particular problem.

Yah, a lot of Subarus in Seattle have them, especially skiiers. These things are kind of part of the style for the outdoor crowd. I'm trying to figure out if its effective, or just for looks.

And bras are stupid, I'd never have one of those. Besides grinding in dirt, they make your paint fade unevenly.

Don't they fuck up the aerodynamics of the car?

I doubt its anywhere near as much as opening a window. I seem to remember seeing somewhere where someone had one and it seemed to really work well. I don't remember for sure. Do you have a "love bug" season up there? If so, just drive around and look for cars with them and with out them.

Dang, looks like mostly a Florida thing.

Here is what I am talking about though

Uh, no, nope, I don't understand this part at all. Looks?

I guess if the goal is to make a car look butt ugly, they have succeeded.

From a physics standpoint I can see bugs getting redirected a little since they have a much lower density and the airflow would move them. I would think they would be !useful for rocks since a rock's density is much greater.

I'm trying to evolve.

I don't get why there is so much hate for the way they look, I think they look fine, but I guess its a northwest thing, part of the outdoor crowd.

And no, we do have have bugs like that, thank god, those look horrible!
