Business & Technology | Now lighter and faster, electric bikes grow in popularity | Seattle Times Newspaper

I talked about it a while ago, but this is what my roommate's bike looks like:

He rides it to work every now and then. It's fun to ride... hauls arse and has great pickup. You start pedaling and the electric assist kicks in and it feels like it's going 25 MPH within seconds. I think its top speed is actually around there somewhere with a 20 MPH range (assuming you're pedaling too). Even on full electric it's pretty fast, but you'd have to be really lazy to not pedal at all while this thing's moving.

I'm Tweak3D's self-appointed mayor.

I think you're incapable of navigating that giant turd canoe of yours... Time to get bicycle... --Dustin

A good alternative when trying to go to work/class without getting sweaty.

ive been wanting to open an electric scooter/moped/bike rental store in every major neighborhood in my city.

each location is in walking distance and renting out is as easy as scooter rentals in panama city or miami.

now that gas is going down, everyone thinks theyre getting a deal and are driving more.

Seems like its working against the power to weight ratio, not to mention the American weight ratio.

What's the range of your friend's electric bike? Any idea how long the batteries last?

How much do those things cost?....

eBay has a bunch of 24 and 48 volt kits for around $400-600.
