these are the cars im looking at atm for a car with good gas mileage to replace my 95 gmc jimmy that gets around 20, id like to keep driving a gas guzzler but no can do anymore. Im looking for in this order: price, gas mileage, manual transmission, sedan, roomyness/comfort, power windows/locks.

corolla s, kind of ugly imo but are decent cars

tdi golf, love this car except its kind of slow, and alot more expensive then the other cars and consumer reports say they arent reliable

we get a good deal on hondas so a civic is also an option, also space ship looking

If you really want great gas mileage, then go with the TDI Golf. The Civic is a very nice car though, the total package is a good deal, and it gets good gas mileage

VWs are for the most part, constructed well... inside and outside at least. Mechanically, I'm not too fond but if you maintain it and buy it new then you probably will have little to no problems. My friend has a TDI Jetta and gets 1000km per tank of fuel, damn impressive.

However, it's also important to consider that diesel is more expensive than gasoline right now, so you really may not save any money at the pump, and driving a diesel is more annoying than a nice smooth gas motor

There’s nothing wrong with a corolla, but I could never by one, they are way to boring, they are good on gas, cheap and reliable though

The TDI is really nice and awesome on gas, right now however (in Canada at least) diesel is actually a fair bit more expensive then gas.

It’s going to be a much nicer car then the civic; the Japanese have never been able to keep up with European cars when it comes to comfort and luxuries. I personally like the looks of the golf myself.

The civic will be extremely reliable, but it’s not going to matter if all the cars are new, they will all be warranted anyways.

The civic new civic SI is awesome, and I must admit this generation is really nice, minus the fugly fake chrome grill; the coupe is much nicer though.

Have you ever considered getting 1.8T golf? They run on 91 octane, but they get like 30 MPG…..

You won't go wrong with a civic or a golf.

The motors in the TDIs are built very well, my brother in law sold his TDI bug to a friend, it's since had 200k miles put on it. Watch out for electrical gremlins though, the Mexicans assembling them still can't get that right. My sister's TDI jetta had to be towed a few weeks ago because of electrical issues preventing it from starting. My bro complains about brake fade too.

200k is not a whole lot for a diesel. they are considered to be "broken in" at 70k-ish miles. i'd get the tdi and make biodiesel for ~$0.55 a gallon

Well you know what I vote for so I shouldn't have to say it.
And yes, I agree the new Civics look like spaceships.

having owned a 2005 corolla le and now a 2006 civic LX, the corolla has NOTHING on the civic.

the civic is a much nicer looking car that was just re-designed the corolla has looked the same since 2003 i believe.

the corolla feels cheep inside
the civic doesnt

corolla doesnt have ABS standard, civic does
corolla has 2 airbags
civic has 6 standard airbags

corolla has 6 cd changer option
civic has a 1cd player that is mp3 player compatible, which means you can fit like 10cds of music on one cd, civic wins here again

just go test drive both, the civic is around 2k more but eh, i think its worth it.

the civic coupe does look even better ($100 cheaper too) then the civic sedan but i dont want a 2door car yet, maybe in the future.

i dont know much about the golf but my vote goes to civic 100%

^^^ ya, that too
speaking of that, my corollas tires would skreech all the fucking time on semi sharp turns but the civic doesnt do that, i can take turns pretty fucking fast and stick to the road no problem without looking like an idiot and having my tires skreeching and all.

Have fun, owning a brand new car when you're young blows ass. I wish I would have just got a used car, worrying about if your door is gonna get dinged and shit is such a pain.
