| Former Alcoholic | so i took the first step in trying to increase my mpg to 60+ i added 3oz of acetone to my tank drove up to Madison then to eau claire. filled up, calculated gas millage. 37mpg, i was a little disappointed. added the appropriate amount of acetone and the next day i drove from eau claire to St. Cloud MN for a rugby game, on the way back we stopped to eat and a fellow rugger pointed out that my tire was about flat. FUCK. filled up the tire and the tank, added the acetone, calculated 36mpg and drove back to eau claire, about 200 miles, i fixed the tire this morning, had a slow leak, went and filled up before my trip to back home to Milwaukee, 42mpg. drove home today, windows up, averaging 70-80mph and when i just filled up i calculated it and i was getting 45mpg! no my car is rated 25/35, its 10 years old and i see about average 31-33. so until i get my HFI setup running, I'm defiantly going to be adding acetone to my gas. i'm been reading up on any ill effects of burning acetone, but have yet to read any horror stories. the car ran exactly as it did on normal gas |

| Globe Trekker | So where did you hear about adding acetone to your gas? What impact does it have on your fuel system and engine? Any environmental downside? |

| Former Alcoholic | I heard about it from wiskas, i did a little research and found a couple pages of guys that have been testing this stuff on dyno's and soaking engine parts in pure acetone and 50/50 acetone/gas mixes. ill pull them up and post in a few. and from what i've read it is actually better for the environment because it burns off more of the gas so theres less waste. ill find some of the web sites i was reading. |

| Habitual line stepper | I could see a problem with that though. Acetone is a much stronger solvent than gasoline. There is a chance that it could eat your fuel lines, seals, o-rings, etc. But if it works? fuck it. I know when they started putting ethanol(weaker solvent than ethanol) in gas some people had a hard time. My uncle had to put new fuel lines in his old ford because of this. |

| Former Alcoholic | I do more city driving that highway, my car is rated 25/35 and i see an average of 35. when i take road trips i average about 38-40 depending on how fast i drive. last weekend i drove up north averaging 75-80 and i got about 40, on the way back i was hitting about 90-95 and she dropped down to 32-35ish. if i keep it around 65, windows up, no ac she hops up to mid 40's, it really depends on my driving habits, and i like to beat on her most the time. |
