DailyTech - Civic Hybrid Owner Sues Honda Over Mileage Claims

John True, an Ontario, California native, wasn’t amused with the latest MPG mash-ups. True purchased his Civic Hybrid last year when the stated EPA mileage ratings were 49/51. True averaged 32MPG in his Civic Hybrid over the course of 6,000 miles -- even lower than the revised 2008 EPA ratings of 40/55. Consumer Reports also tested a Civic Hybrid in 2005 and averaged just 26MPG in the city.

The new EPA numbers cut into the gas mileage numbers. I'd be pissed if I paid an extra $3000 or whatever for the hybrid and it got the same gas mileage as the normal gas motor. When people hear "hybrid" they immediately think 100 MPG even though most those cars get about the same mileage as a lightweight diesel car or even worse.

Thats pretty funny. I calculated my 2006 Subaru 2.5i back in April, 1 year after I purchased it, and I'm averaging 28.2MPG. Granted 90% of my travel is highway cruising, but I was pretty satisfied.

25MPG humpin it along the highway in my Mustang. I'm satisfied, and if i kept my foot out of it, i bet i could get closer to 30.

Hell, I get 24-25 MPG in my regular CR-V. I'd be pissed too. What's a regular Civic, 26-28 MPG? My old Protege (similar size) got 27+...

Regular Civics should be getting mid-30s at least. Hell my RSX (with the 2.0 ltr 200 hp) is getting 26.5 when I've got my foot into it 90% of the time.

i just did a road trip to maine in my integra and got 36mpg ... normally i get 25mpg city though
