| | Catback vs. Exhaust Shop | permalink #1 |
| Tweak Minion | So I am thinking of putting 2.5" catback exhaust on my firebird. I've been looking around at some forums and stuff, and people claim the boughten catback system would be better than having an exhaust shop bend the pipes and install it. Is this true? Will it really be that much different? | |

| Tweak Minion | It depends, do you want the exhaust to make you a catback, or a full exhaust system? Obviously if you went there for a full custom exhaust from the header back, it would be better than the catback. But if you were just talking catback system vs catback; the pre-made ones would be cheaper by far.... already comes with everything (mufflers, tips, hangers and thermal/protective coatings), all of which you would pay for at a shop, and labour on top of that | |

| Tweak Minion | well the magnflow catback is $530 or something like that. According to people I've talked to I could probably get it done for less that $200. My friend has a GMC pickup and the installed dual exhaust for him (originally his pickup was single) and it cost him like $210 for everything. Ohh and I would want the exhaust place to just make the catback | |

| Tweak Minion | Guess it would depend what kind of system you wanted. I couldn't imagine a pre-made catback costing much more than $300, including ceramic coating Also would depend on the shop.. If they do lots of Camaros or Firebirds, it would take them piss-all for time to whip a nice system together Bottom line, get a quote, and compare to similar pre-made systems | |

| Tweak Minion | Well, your first mistake is looking at the Manufacturer's site for a price... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku http://store.summitracing.com/partde...9&autoview=sku | |

| Tweak Minion | well the magnaflow kit is still $400. I would get the flowmaster, but I hear it's shit. | |

| Tweak Minion | Guess it all depends on the shop, their labour rates, the quality of the kit. I'm sure for all those domestic pony cars, any old shop has tons of experience in making exhaust for those cars... and could do it for cheaper. As long as you're getting full mandrel bent, coated stuff from a shop with a good fit, if it's cheaper, go for it of course. Just gotta call | |
