so i'm in the process of searching for a new car. i want something good on gas mileage, small, standard, with the ability to have like a bike or snowboard carried around. i'm moving to vegas so it doesn't have to be an SUV.

I normaly dont like foreign cars but I have to say the Honda Civic and Accord are not doing to bad as far as Gas Milage goes. Though if you like something go and American go for a Chevy Cobalt.

VW??

http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/08/pf/a...o_reliability/

Yah, it is from 04, but I was looking in a Consumer Reports and didn't see a lot of improvement

Quote:
Most Volkswagen models were rated far below average for reliability. The all-wheel drive Volkswagen Passat received the lowest reliability rating of any vehicle in the survey.

A spokesman for Volkswagen of America did not deny that the company's products have had problems.

"We are obviously aware of some of these issues," he said.

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/c...5/overview.htm

05 Survey:

Quote:
Of the 31 cars that earned top rating, 29 were Japanese. Of these, 15 were from Toyota and its Lexus division and eight were from Honda.

2006 impreza. Better gas milage than a civic, more hp and tourque, awd, can fit skies/snowbard inside through the back seat. 5-spd standard. I just paid $18k for mine.

Bike I'm not sure, maybe on the roof because the back seat doesn't fold down, just the middles seat can open up.

uh, better gas milage then the civic? have any proof? the 2006 civic gets 30/40. looking on KBB, impreza sucks cock as for gas milage.

MK4(99-05) GTI's only come with 1.8T's and VR6's, unless you're talking about a Golf which is a 2.0 or a TDI.. but yeah, gas mileage on the 1.8 or the VR isn't that great at all but they're fun cars.. well not really that fun stock, but still somewhat interesting.. I guess.. not really that either. Bah. Fuck it.

Vegas is a really dusty place. Whatever you get, upgrade your air filter to a K&N or similar high quality air filtration system. Your engine will thank you.

BTW, you'll probably run the A/C all the time so figure that into your gas economy figures. It does make a difference.

I love VW's, their fun little cars but there not what your after. On the reliability scheme of things there not great, nor are costs associated with them. If you want something cheap, reliable with a good resale value get a Honda or a Toyota, its that simple.
If you willing to sacrifice a little bit of those in the name of fun, look at some Subaru’s.
