BMW today released new details on its much-rumored N54 Bi-Turbo Engine. The motor is expected to appear in the 2007 BMW 335i and 2007 BMW 335ci (coupe). The engine has an output of 306 horsepower and maximum torque of 295 lbs.-ft (400 Nm). BMW said it has already tested a 3-Series sedan with the engine, and achieved a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds. BMW said the engine is relatively lightweight — about 70kg less than its 4.0-liter V8 engine. According to the automaker, the 3.0-liter engine has little or no turbo lag, thanks to two small turbos instead of one large one. Maximum torque is achieved between 1500 and 5800 rpm. What we know so far: BMW will show its new E92 3-Series coupe at the Geneva Motor Show along with this new engine. What's no entirely clear is whether this engine will make it to North America. Recent rumors suggested this turbo engine would be exclusive to Europe, and a different naturally-aspirated powerplant would drive the 335 in North America.

80-120kmh in 6.3s (eg. 330i in 8.2s)
0-100kmh in 5.7s (eg. 330i in 6.3s)

I hope the aftermarket is good on it, could have an audi killer as far as moddability is concerned (that is, as long as dinan doesnt get ahold of it and try to get people to buy an aircleaner for 800bucks)

I looooooove factory turbo engines.

The turbo's are in some funky spots though, I'd like to see a picture of that in an engine bay.

nice.

ON a semi-related note:

yesterday I got to drive my dad's new '06 BMW 550... however I wanted (more or less)

Got to take it on the freeway doing 90 weaving in and out of traffic. Then got to take it up on the mountain roads (The locals will know them as Lake Elizabeth Road through Godee[sp?] Hills) as fast as I could keep it in control.

OMG driving through the mountains at more than double the suggested speed for the turns... what a blast. I seriously almost shit my pants in some of the turns.

I don't know the specs on the car, but man oh man, that thing stuck to the ground no problem.

Highlight of the driving experience: doing 70 through a 45 passing cars aggressively, then driving right past a cop, who did nothing...

hahaha, aftermarket? for a car like that? but why??? I mean they're already so expensive...
Aftermarket is for the low budget domestic and jdm scene, becuase the cars are already pretty slow. Cars that are like under 30k should have aftermarket, where cars that cost like 60+ should just be left alone. Maybe rims and a small kit, but thats it..

thats ridiculous.

just because a car has a high price, doesnt mean it has all the power money can buy. just look at the a4 1.8t there is a huge aftermarket for them.

are you saying that there should not be an aftermarket for the z06? its a pretty high dollar car, maybe it should just be left alone.

also, the 335 is going to be set inbetween the m3 and the 330i, which will probably be high 30's low 40's. not really "ultra luxury sports sedan" territory.

man, why the hell would you want to mod out a z06? they have 500hp from the factory STOCK and they are confortable to drive!

Adding any more HP to something like that just makes it less and less comfortable to drive. You get more hp, you lose more low end torque, you get stiffer suspension, you get more bumps. You get a stronger clutch, you get a more jerky start.

Im just saying that when you have that kind of money, mods aren't really necessary in my opinion. I would never mod out a car that costs 100grand, why? becuase I can afford not to.

Just my two cents, thats all.

There's always room for improvement, regardless of how much the car cost

I don't see why expensive cars shouldn't be modified. If the owner has the money to buy the car in the first place, i'm sure he'll have some extra cash to throw into the car to make it even better.

Where would the Fast and the Furious be without the modified Skylines? That's a $50-60k car new over in Japan and everywhere it sells yet has some of the largest potential to grow under the engine bay. You put another $8k under the hood and you'll have nearly 1000hp. Throw another 5k-8k into the suspension and you'll be banned from all GT and Road Racing events because of your superiority just like in Australia.
