Haha, I'm really only about a half mile away and I used to walk, but biking is so much faster. I don't really lube the chain all that often. Maybe once every week or two.

I think it might be the steel wheels causing my brakes to slip.

Take the bent wheel into a bike shop and they can true it. They usually charge anywhere from $10-20 per wheel.

I put motorcycle chain wax on my bike chain about every 100 miles. You could go much longer though.

You'd think that in the bike friendly city of Portland we'd have drivers that are more aware.

The other night I rode up to the grocery store on my bike to get some bread. I ended up nearly getting caked by an SUV pulling out of their parallel spot. I blamed it on the fact that I didn't have lights and they couldn't see me very well in the dark.

Fast forward to this afternoon. I was riding up to the bike shop to get some lights today and someone did the exact same thing. I swerved out of the way and ended up overcompensating, so I went flying. Messed up my arm and ankle pretty bad, but I'm ok. The brakes on the bicycle got a little mangled but it isn't anything I can't fix.

I also slammed my head on the pavement pretty hard, but fortunately I was wearing a helmet. There are times that I've gone without a helmet, but now I've learned my lesson. Not going to leave the house without it ever again.
