| From Utah, NOT mormon | I have no clue where the damn thing is, any ideas? Transmission doesn't really like to shift if the throttle is held down, and releasing the throttle let's it switch, so I was thinking the fluid might be low. It also likes to die when it's idling, but it really needs a tune-up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.). Could this be the problem? Or could there be something more sinister? Thanks. |

| Tweak Minion | Die while idling might be the IAC valve that needs cleaning/adjusting. Changing the plugs, cleaning out the throttle body, and cleaning the IAC valve will be good for starters. Depending on the mileage, you can do a auto tranny flush, but if you're over 60-70K (from the sounds of the things, it definately seems af it is), then I'd recommend against it. The maxima doesn't have distributor caps, they use ignition coils. Those don't really needed to be changed unless your getting CEL's with misfire's in cylinders or VERY rough idling (I mean VERY). You may want to pick up a Hayne's manual to help you along. I'll ask someone at work tomorrow if they remember a website that had the full factory service manual for the car (manual the Nissan dealers use). As far as the dipstick for the tranny, it's more or less where the arrow is pointing. Sorry for a lack of better picture. ![]() |

| From Utah, NOT mormon | It's my soon to be ex-wife's new car. It has like 287,000 miles on it, but she got it for $1300 and she really needed a car. I'll check the transmission fluid the next time I see her. I'll also tell her to have her dad check the IAC, and get a Hanes manual to help figure stuff out. Thanks Jamsan. |
