I can't wait. I hope it's not as boring as Black&White was though

I can't wait!

Is it just me, or wasn't the original intent of Spore to show the development community that a game can be made low-cost and in a short amount of time?

I feel like that too. In Spore's case, I fear some giga-mega-hype.

We'll see quite soon.

Yeah, you guy's reviews are the only thing I trust. the advetising for games and movies are so unreliable that I don't go by those any longer.

I'm a little worried to, it has huge potential, but I'm worried that its going to be so vast and they're will be so many options that it will just become dry and boring.

Hopefully thats not the case.

You could say the same thing about all the sim games. Especially the later ones.

They just announced a release date didnt they? Sep 08 or something?

I'm trying to evolve.

I like how review sites have made it so a high 80 to a low 90 is a mediocre review. I also like how this game will probably have more depth and gameplay than MGS4, but someone's dick was being sucked by Konami, so they decided the game was perfect (yes 10 = 100% which implies that the game has no faults whatsoever)
I plan on buying it even though I almost went the piracy route. At least Will Wright is trying to do something unique instead of releasing another mediocre shooter that's been done before.

It's an entirely different development on the DS though. That's like avoiding Tony Hawk Games because they also had shitty hand held developments.

But, mostly what Im assuming is it will sell well, and be mostly praised by non gamers, while most hardcore gamers won't be too down with the sandbox aspects. It will probably be more akin to the sims than anything too intense.

Here's an interesting take on spore:

Quote:
Why Spore could be the most important game ever made.

After having reached the Civ stage I was, like many, pretty disappointed in how easy the game was and how incredibly shallow it was. It wasn't until I hit the space stage and zoomed out into the galaxy that the game clicked with me and the genius of Spore became clear to me.

Spore is NOT 5 games in one. It's 4 of the best tutorials ever made and 1 enormous, gigantic game in the vein of Space Rangers 2 mixed with your favorite mmo. Your creations are the common thread that links all the stages together and once you reach the Space stage they have managed to create such a incredible attachement to your creations that novice players won't give up on playing the space game.

Since Spore dumbs everything down Will Wright has lowered the bar of entry to games for the casual gamer. You know them.. the ones that pick up a wii now and again and the ones that play the occasional Guitar Hero with their friends. What Spore does is hold their hand and guides them throught the evolution of gaming:

Cell stage: See? "It's Pac Man. You know this stuff." This stage sets the casual gamer at ease with gaming, saying it's not hard, just follow the instructions. They include modern hooks like achievements and of course the attachment that goes with building your very own creature.
Creature Stage: "This is a third person shooter. First person shooters are very similar to this. Remember Doom that you read about but never played? Yeah, it's like this, but a little bloodier." Here Spore presents the shooter game to the casual gamer. It gaves the casual gamer the first taste of the thrill of the hunt.
City and Civ Stage: Spore presents a game type that is much harder for the casual gamer to get into. If they were to have picked up Command and Conquer or Age of Empires, a casual gamer would have played for 2 minutes and said "not for me". But thanks to the attachment Spore creates with building your own creation and following it from the cell stage, the player really wants to win these stages. Again, they use achievements and the editors to attach the gamer to their own creations and teach them gently how to win.
Space stage: The future. This is what the future of games will be like. User created content and immense worlds that you can traverse. It's also a simple step for the casual gamer who has made it this far to pick up a mmo game of their choice because it's... just... like... spore. They have the social interaction, the attachment of the characters (editor for spore and loot and paperdolling for regular mmo's) and finally the immense open world.

This is the reason why they have made Spore so easy until you hit the Space stage.

You'll see.. in a short time (1 year, I predict), you'll see a huge a influx of gamers that have used Spore to traverse the casual gamespace to the hardcore. You'll see gamers picking up a RTS because they have already learned the mechanics of those games in Spore. They'll pick up RAGE from id because they learned the mechanics in Spore. I really believe that this is what Will Wright was aiming for with Spore. You are disappointed with the dumbing down of gameplay because you are already a hardcore gamer. You are already at the ending point of the Spores journey.

What he did was take the journey of the evolution and applied it to gamers. It's the evolution of games and gamers and it's the entry way to larger gaming world for the casual gaming public.

It's a brilliant, brilliant game and it will have an enormous impact on the landscape of gaming.
