I went to play my ps3 with a bud the other day and as COD4 was joining a server, it just locked up (froze). It wouldn't acknowledge the front power button so i had to throw the rear switch and power it back up. This time I stayed in the front-end but after about 20 seconds, it locked up again. It does this over and over varying between 5 and 30 seconds. WTF Sony? I've had it about 6 months and never had any problems. It has update 2.42 on it and is a 40 gig version. Maybe it overheated? Or software? I don't even think a format would help or ? Anyone heard of this?

hahaha... seems like the bricking plague went from 360s to Ps3s

A new console syndrom. We should add that to medical textbooks.

THat's what I was thinking. Doesn't F@H require having your system on? I mean, the PS3 has good heat dissipation but not enough where I'd leave it running overnight or when I'm away from the couch.

nope. not folding but I did leave my ps3 on overnight. I opened a claim with Sony without a problem. I then went and powered up the ps3 after sitting 24 hours with the rear switch off and it worked fine. Just got out of a 3 hour COD4 spree without a hitch. So now i dunno whether to send it in or not. I don't really wanna take my chances with a refurbished system if this one is ok. I also added some cooling to the PS3 to prevent any further problems. Seems like it just overheated and leaving it off with the rear switch on kept it hot.

Good to hear that you don't have a really expensive paperweight. Keep us posted if any other problems come up.

You should be able to run a console 24/7 if you want, that's crazy.

I don't think it's wise to have any of these next-gen consoles running all-day long. When I had my Wii, I had the WiiConnect24 or whatever it's called on all the time. The system was off but the processor kept going for all the background updates and Mii connections. I woke up one morning and touched the side of the Wii; it was hot as hell. From then on, I turned off WiiConnect because all of these 'standby' programs really use power and have constant heat being generated.

I'm a heat freak though....I can't stand overly hot electronics, it bugs me.

that sucks. Mine has been okay so far (touch wood.)

Where do you have it sitting? In the Open or in an AV cabinet?

Yeah, but as many consoles are made (I'm guessing in the 30-50million mark for this generation) there are bound to be duds.

Also, I fuckin' love your sig.

Casket is here but I havent had any problems in 2 weeks. Possibly just a loose a/v connector on the back of the unit as I re-checked the connections and it "snapped" in. I dunno how that would cause the system to freeze though. I figuered the a/v connector was only for audio and video output signals... hmmm.

just send it in. The turn around time is really quick. Better having one that works then your current one.
