| Resident Cynic | So I just rented this because I missed a lot of the "classic" PS2 games. It's pretty shitty, I really don't get why this game was such a big deal. Did anyone play the series, does it improve in the 2nd or the 3rd game? Maybe I'm just way too late to the party and modern games are just much better, but this game is just a monotonous pile of garbage. | |

| Paw? | I know you're not talking about the first DMC. That game was bad-ass on multiple levels. I hear DMC 2 and 3 are really hard, but I haven't played them yet. Try busting out combos and moves, don't just button mash. If you want that, play God of War 1 or 2. | |

| Resident Cynic | It's just that the combat is stupid. I'm fighting a bunch of demons for no fucking reason. This kind of gameplay was cool on SNES, but it's played out and it's only there to stall me. There's nothing for gameplay outside of the boring combat. You walk back and forth between 2-3 rooms looking for fucking keys or stupid items. Nothing about the game is fun or rewarding, and the way the level system works makes me feel like I'm playing some web based game. They could have at least thrown in a cutscene or something to make it feel like wandering around had some purpose. I've noticed every review for this game is a 9 or it's a 2, I guess you either love it or you hate it, there doesn't appear to be a middle ground. | |

| Party? Where? | At the time it had some of the best graphics seen on the PS2. The action was fast paced, this is why it was so successfull, and it was hard as hell sometimes. It really was just a get in there shooter with many challenges and some really really cool weapons. My favorite was the shotgun and/or the grenade launcher, had alot of fun with those blowing up manicans. Honestly after a couple hours if you don't like it, don't play it cause it probably will not get better for you. Again "at the time" when it was out it was pretty revolutionary. Gaming and graphics have changed quite a bit, so I don't think its fair to assume that it was always a shitty game. I never played 2/3, never even gave a shit cause they just didn't look all that good to me. The first one was quite a bit of fun. | |
