Its summer time and i hate being hot.. the 360 doesnt make things any better. It builds up so much heat its causing the ac to come on more often.. thats just rediculous. It really is a little heater. Not only is it hot as hell, but its LOUD as hell.

I would say mine is a 1st gen 360 thats been refurbished.

Im thinking, sell this one and buy a newer model 360 that runs cooler or has a new-fangled cooler running cpu.. (any suggestions?)

Or buy one of those slap on the back coolers.. but im not totally convinced by it and im sure it'll just make things louder.

Solution: Buy a refrigerator, put the 360 IN the refrigerator, drill holes IN the refrigerator to run cables through, install plexiglass "window" in front of refrigerator so rf signals can get through, and run the 360 in relative quiet and coolness...

Buying the new 360 sounds like a good idea, unless you want to rip open your 360 to install heatpipes or waterblocks....

I have one of the coolers that goes on the back. They are loud but they do help.

The sound is the shitty DVD drives, not the fans.
I seriously doubt your 360 is putting out so much heat that the AC is kicking on, but if that really is the case just use a floor fan and point it towards the 360 to keep the area cooler.

two words: oil immersion

No idea what it would do to the RF, but with enough oil and a cheap pump you should be fine (Might wanna take the case off though... and relocate the optical drive)

Its not a great idea unless a few conditions are met with the underlying hardware (sealed capacitors and such)
I have seen it done with PCs before, you drop everything in a tank (excluding disc drives), fill tank with oil (dielectric is best but mineral oil works well). The fans move the oil around like they would air (only slightly slower) the hot oil will naturally rise to the top. If your especially creative you can use a radiator to cool the oil.

However I really wouldn't recommend this, more than likely it will destroy the 360... but if it didn't it would be great... of course you still have to put up with the noise of the disk drivers.

Just hope you never have a problem with the hardware or a cable problem on a pc if you do that. I would hate that mess.

Exactly.

I sold my 1st gen 360 a month after launch because the DVD Drive was ridiculously loud.. So loud I couldn't hear the TV sometimes.

Yea, quiet cause there's no games worth playing on it, so it'll be off!

Kinda glad I bought GTA4 for my PS3, the 360 is annoyingly loud. I don't think the Elite models improved on this either. The PS3 fans kick in for about 10 minutes when playing for a long time but lower speed after so it stays quiet. Even on full fan power, it doesn't get as loud as a 360.

When your 360 with over 30% failure rate dies, then it'll permanently be off.

Indeed. I really wish the 360s software was on PS3s hardware .

That said, mine hasn't shitted out yet, but it has a third party fan installed in it. It overheats fairly often

/me is too poor to own any consoles at the moment . the last console I had was a PS2 or Gamecube. It's ok though. I just don't have the time anyways to play games much.

that 360 sounds like a power house though with the loadness and the heat.

Do some research before you plop down more money.

Console noise
We know how much you all wanted your Xbox 360 Elite to quiet down a bit, but we have some bad news for ya. As we heard from our sources who supplied us with much of our info about the Elite, unfortunately the noise level is about the same as before. It doesn't use the new 65nm chips, so it seems to require the same number of case fans.

The same is true of the disc drive. Our Elite and classic drives do sound different, and it's obvious they're not the same make or model. However, unfortunately, they're equally loud. Sorry guys, you're still going to have to put up with the same level of noise as before -- don't come looking to the Elite for something that sounds less like a shop-vac.

thats an old article.

i beg to differ, ive been reading alot of threads at xbox.com in the 360 hardware section and they give details on what to look for when buying an elite. Most people do find what theyre looking for AND state theirs runs cooler and quieter.

you gotta look at psu power ratings, lot numbers, dates, inside the casing, etc to get a falcon chip

Hmm, it just doesn't seem worth it to throw down on a new sku when it might offer minimal improvements. From what I've read, it seems like modding cooling solutions is the only way to reduce heat.

I'm a heat-freak myself and I hate hot electronics as much as the next guy but every next-gen console (even the wii) run pretty hot.
